Finally, in August 2012, Reggie Bush returns his Heisman Trophy

by Travis Normand

It has been almost two years since Reggie Bush had his Heisman award vacated due to receiving improper benefits while at USC.  Now, in August of 2012, the Heisman Trophy that was presented to Reggie Bush in 2005 is back in the hands of the Heisman Trust.

Depending on who is telling the story, Bush actually forfeited the trophy after the NCAA released its findings on USC (and it was later vacated).  Regardless, everyone was under the impression that Bush had sent his trophy back to New York.  Then, in the summer of 2011, it was reported that Bush’s trophy had not been returned and had gone missing.  After a brief search, the trophy was found a few days later.

Phil Steele’s 2012 CFB Preview

by Travis Normand

I want to give a quick “thank you” to Phil Steele’s team.  Not only did they put together another fantastic preseason edition of their annual magazine, but they sent me a copy of it extremely quick.

I knew the magazine was on its way to my mail box, but I wasn’t quite sure when it would arrive.  On my way to work this morning, I stopped to check the mail (just in case), and as I opened my mail box, I saw the big white envelope with the Phil Steel address printed in purple.  Bingo!

Let the research begin!

[If you don’t have a copy of Phil Steele’s magazine, you are missing out.  You can either buy it at a book store, etc. or you can order it online, HERE.]

Its Getting Ugly in Maryland

by Travis Normand
Maryland 2012 Uniform

No, this is not a reference to Maryland’s new (2012) or old (2011) football uniforms, although they are not helping any.

Yesterday it was reported that Maryland’s starting quarterback, C.J. Brown, has torn his ACL and will miss the entire 2012 season.  It is now up to Perry Hills or Caleb Rowe, to fill the vacancy at the position.  Both Hills and Rowe are true freshman.

Before Brown’s injury, several pre-season prognosticators picked Maryland to finish fifth place in the Atlantic Division of the ACC (with Boston College at sixth).  Now, after news of Brown’s ACL injury, a fifth place finish would be a dream come true for the struggling Terps.

Longhorn QBs and their Dads

by Travis Normand

What will University of Texas QB David Ash’s father do to make headlines?  Whatever it is, he has some big shoes to fill.

In case “Father” Ash doesn’t already know, he is apparently obligated to make a fool out of himself in order to gain some media attention.  Why?  Because this is just something that dads of Longhorn quarterbacks do.

Remember Longhorn quarterback Chris Simms?  His dad (Phil Simms) threatened to fight Desmond Howard back in February of 2011 over some comments about his younger son Matt Simms (who, at the time, played at Tennessee).  This is the same Phil Simms who said he didn’t see “big time NFL throws” coming from Andrew Luck.
