PHILADELPHIA – In a scathing rebuttal of Judge Louis Freeh’s investigative report that implied former Penn State President Graham Spanier covered up child sexual abuse, Spanier’s attorney Timothy Lewis calledFreeh a “self-anointed accuser” who used biased information to “support his version of the truth.”

“Paterno,” Biography by Joe Posnanski – Released Today August 21

by Travis Normand

The biography of Joe Paterno, written by Joe Posnanski, was released today.  I ran out of the office today during lunch to pick up my copy.  I haven’t started reading it yet, but can’t wait to get started.

I got my copy at Barnes and Noble, however it is more than $10 cheaper through Amazon.com.  If you don’t mind waiting a couple days (for shipping), this is probably the best way to go.

As you can imagine, there is no shortage of opinions on this book.  However, most of the opinions I have read are anything but insightful.  Here are a few opinions that I thought were better than most:

Regardless, I would advise reading the book yourself and making up your own mind.

2012 Notre Dame “Shamrock Series” TECHFIT Uniform by Adidas (is awful!)

by Travis Normand

Its official, Notre Dame has the worst new uniforms of the 2012 season.  I mean, these uniforms are uglier than what the Maryland Terrapin coughed up in 2011.

I won’t even try to hide the fact that I am a traditionalist and that I really like Notre Dame’s regular uniform.  However, even if I wasn’t, these new Notre Dame uniforms make the Oregon Ducks look like the school with the conservative uniform option.

Thank God this “look” is only for one game (the October match-up versus Miami).

The Ring Rule

by Travis Normand

Have you ever wondered about the rule regarding championship rings in college?  The answer is probably “no,” but please humor me.

Personally, I am very interested in the hardware that teams and individuals are awarded each year.  Naturally then, I am interested in the rules regarding these trophies, rings, etc.  So, when I came across this particular NCAA rule today, I figured I would share it with everyone else.

Big 12 Officials are Terrible

Jordan Webb - Buff Bio

by Travis Normand

Jordan Webb, Colorado’s starting quarterback, has a pretty interesting bio page over at CUBuffs.com (Colorado’s official athletics website).  However, it doesn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know.

Webb played quarterback at Kansas in 2010 and ’11 before transferring to Colorado.  It is for this reason that most college football fans are relatively familiar with what he has done before now.

Kiffin Lied; but USA Today is the One Without Integrity

USC's Lane Kiffin

by Travis Normand

Do you remember when the AP’s college football poll was part of the BCS formula?  Do you remember why the AP decided to remove its poll from the BCS?  It was essentially because the AP didn’t want to make/create the news; they simply wanted to report it.  In other words, the journalists who voted in the AP poll listened to their ethical side and (following a few controversies involving the BCS’ final standings) thought it would be best to recuse themselves from the BCS formula — thus removing any conflict of interest.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the USA Today / Coaches’ Poll.
