Freeh Report is Insufficient to Justify NCAA Punishment

by Travis Normand

When I quote an entire article in one of my posts, I always feel as if I should start by saying, “I hate doing this.” However, in this case, there are simply far too many things in the article that I would like to highlight.

As you will see below, The Chronicle of Higher Education released an article this past week with some interesting information and comments on the Freeh Report.  Please read the following quote[s] from the article and then see my bulleted comments after.  [Emphasis added]

ESPN The Magazine’s 2012 College Football Preview Issue Hits Newsstands Friday

For Immediate Release
8 August 2012
ESPN.com

College football can be a little dizzying, with its ups and downs, computer formulas, and conference musical chairs. But we can always trust that the first Saturday of the season will bring what really matters into focus. However teams approach the new season, they all have the same thing in mind: winning the BCS.

With each new season, we gather to ask: Is this the year the rest of the country finally catches up to the SEC? Maybe it ends this year, if USC can throw the Tigers or the Tide into submission. Or next year, if Urban Meyer needs just one season in Columbus like he did in Gainesville. How has the SEC won six straight BCS titles, and how can it be stopped? This dominance has to end, right? Not if you ask SEC fans.

Maryland learns lesson in fashion

by Travis Normand

It was around this same time a year ago that the Maryland football program unveiled its new uniforms for the 2011 season.  The new design was met with an array of opinions and comments, including one titled “Maryland’s Uniforms Are Ugliest in College Football, Hands Down.” [LarryBrownSports.com]

So, how would Maryland respond to the criticism of its new uniform design?  Well, without totally abandoning the overall concept of the 2011 design, the Terps have a new 2012 uniform that is not quite as obnoxious as its 2011 counterpart.

LSU, The Movie – Coming Fall 2012!

by Travis Normand

It is always fun to see what college football programs come up with to promote the upcoming football season.  I found this LSU video today at LesMiles.net.  As you will see, it is made to appear as if the 2012 LSU football season is the next big “blockbuster” movie of the year.  I have to admit, this is one of the better “preview” videos I have seen.

NC State’s 27-point comeback win against Maryland [Nov 26, 2011]

by Travis Normand

The 2012 season is so close you can almost taste it!

For me, this is the longest part of the summer.  I am always excited when the calendar turns from July to August, as I know college football is less than a month away.  However, I am convinced that the month of August moves slower than any of the other 11 months.

But fear not!  I have found something that will help pass the time (at least six minutes of it anyway) while we wait for the 2012 season to get underway.

Enjoy!

NC State’s 27-point comeback win against Maryland [Nov 26, 2011]

Here is the information that was posted along with the video:

NC State comes back from a 41-14 deficit versus Maryland to gain bowl eligibility during the final game of the regular season.

It was the second biggest comeback between two ACC teams in ACC history, and the biggest comeback in NC State history. It’s a game that included 35 fourth quarter points, and 42 unanswered points.

As you are probably aware by now, Notre Dame will play it’s first game of the 2012 season on September 1 against Navy in Dublin Ireland.  Earlier today (August 6, 2012) a member of the Notre Dame football equipment staff tweeted this message and photo:
