Dartmouth – 1970 Undefeated Ivy League Championship Trophy

by Travis Normand

  • I first posted about this trophy on a different blog (“The College Football Independent”) on July 2, 2006.
  • Later I moved the post to my then WordPress.com blog (“The Crystal Football”) on June 20, 2011.
  • Now, I am finally moving this post to the OnePointSafety.com

In 1970 Dartmouth went undefeated and won the Ivy League Championship
(and the Lambert Trophy).

On June 28th 2006, one of the trophies from that team sold on eBay.com for $230.50.

Texas A&M is Tosititos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week

Nov. 12, 2012

DALLAS (FWAA) – The Texas A&M Aggies met the challenge of taking on the nation’s top-ranked team in its own backyard, and came away with one of the biggest wins in school history in a 29-24 upset of No. 1 Alabama. The win reshuffled the national title picture and earned the Aggies the honor of Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Nov. 10. The announcement came exclusively on SiriusXM Radio’s “College Sports Today,” hosted by Mark Packer and Eddie George.

The Aggies took their best shots early, running out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter on two short Christine Michael touchdown runs and a Johnny Manziel touchdown pass to Ryan Swope. Alabama came back to get within 20-17, but never caught up with the elusive Manziel. A Taylor Bertolet field goal and touchdown pass from Manziel to Malcome Kennedy extended the lead to 29-17 in the fourth quarter.

But Alabama, which shared the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week honor last week following its dramatic last-minute win at LSU, nearly pulled it off again. AJ McCarron threw a touchdown pass with 2:28 left and moved the ball downfield again on the next drive before Deshazor Everett intercepted a fourth-down pass at the goal line with 1:36 left, ending Alabama’s 13-game win streak.

“This is one of those meaningful experiences where when you reflect back on your college career, you say ‘We did something great,'” Texas A&M defensive end Damontre Moore said.

Alabama DL Jesse Williams

by Travis Normand

One of the most interesting things about this guy, in my mind, is the fact that he is from Brisbane, Australia.  I would say that we don’t get many Aussies coming to the U.S. to play college football, but with Jesse Williams at Alabama and Brad Wing (Melbourne, Australia) at LSU, I would be incorrect.

“Please consider the following UCLA players as you work to compile you post-season teams.”

I received this from UCLA yesterday in my email and as I said in a previous post, I may not have considered all of the players listed here if not for receiving this.  I am not saying whether or not I voted for all (or any) of these guys, however they were thoroughly considered.

Just like the post on BustedCoverage.com said, I know that my own site (OPS) is full of spelling and grammatical mistakes. However, when you are ESPN and you make these types of mistakes, you are going to get called out.  It is that simple.

Alabama CB Dee Milliner

I just received this in my email from the University of Alabama.  I apparently have a few more too, and will post them as soon as I can.

Georgia All-America linebacker Jarvis Jones

by Travis Normand

Its that time of year again — when I start getting campaign materials for different award candidates from around the country.

There are those who think this method of campaigning is not effective; however, it always helps me make some of my decisions.  I have never made an award-vote decision based solely on a flyer that I received, but it does help me keep track of the guys that are deserving. Further, when I get something for a guy that I am not considering, I will at least check him out and see if I should consider voting for him instead.

Today, I got this in the mail from the University of Georgia:
