Colorado’s Football Program has gone from Bad to Worse

by Travis Normand

Last week I said that Colorado’s football program was a “bad situation.”  I didn’t know it at the time, but calling their program a “bad situation” may qualify as understatement of the year.

Today Sacramento State defeated the Buffaloes 30-28 in Boulder Colorado.  Maybe I should have called it a “catastrophic situation?”

Purdue’s Neil Armstrong, 1955 Boilermaker Graduate

by Travis Normand

Neil Armstrong PurdueThe Purdue football program has had a hard time grabbing the national spotlight over the past few years.  In fact, the last time the national media took a real interest in the Boilermakers, Drew Brees was the quarterback.

However, don’t let the lack of coverage fool you into thinking Purdue doesn’t have anything to offer.  Some pundits have said that Purdue is set to have a fairly decent season in 2012, and considering the fact that they dispatched Eastern Kentucky by a score of 48-6, they might be right.  While a beat-down of EKU might not sound like much of an accomplishment, a quick look at how some other teams fared in their opening games against a “cup cake” opponent and suddenly a 42-point victory sounds pretty good.

Houston, we have a problem

by Travis Normand

Houston, we have a problem.

If there was any way that I could prevent this bowl from being in Houston, I would do it.  As of a few days ago the most likely candidates to host this bowl game were Dallas or New Orleans.  However, with Houston submitting the highest bid to host the bowl I am guessing that could all change quickly.

Personally, my first choice is New Orleans as there is no better bowl destination city. My second choice would be Dallas, simply because of the Cowboy’s venue.

As for Houston, well, how do I say this nicely?  I have been to a bowl game in Houston and I am sorry to say that it was not one of my top college football experiences.

Even the Wins for Maryland are Ugly

by Travis Normand

A few weeks ago I wrote that things were starting to get ugly at Maryland.  What ugliness was I referring too?  One, the new Terrapin football uniforms; and two, the fact that starting QB C.J. Brown would be missing the 2012 season due to injury.

However, what I didn’t know at the time was that Maryland would be turning out some ugly wins as well.

Adding Insult to Injury: Houston Cougar Edition

by Travis Normand

When rumors started circulating about Kevin Sumlin possibly leaving the University of Houston (UH) in order to take the head coaching job at Texas A&M, the Houston Cougar football team wasn’t happy.  In fact, they were so unhappy about the possibility of Coach Sumlin leaving that they couldn’t focus on the task at hand.

Texas State vs. UH - 1 Sept 2012

On December 3, 2011, the University of Houston entered the Conference USA Championship game undefeated.  Their task was simple–win the conference championship and receive their first-ever invitation to a BCS bowl game.  Such an accomplishment would not only be UH’s first, but would have also been the first for Conference USA.

Colorado’s Football Program = A Bad Situation

Colorado State

by Travis Normand

The 2012 season is underway and NOTHING is going right for the Colorado Buffaloes.

After growing tired of being the Big 12’s whipping boy, the Buffaloes packed their bags and moved west to the Pac-12.

The 2011 season was the Buffaloes first in their new conference and they received anything but a warm welcome.  Finishing 3-10 overall, and 2-7 in Pac-12 play, the Buffaloes’ 2011 record was worse than their final 2010 Big 12 record (5-7, 2-6).
