Chip Kelly likes everyone but Oregon

5-1-2013 Update: Philadelphia Eagles sign former Oregon LB Isaac Remington to free agent contract.

I don’t really care about the NFL but the Draft always presents interesting college themed sub-plots.  One of the more interesting sub-plots that I noticed this year was that the Philadelphia Eagles drafted USC QB Matt Barkley.

Keep in mind, I am not criticizing the pick at all, as I am sure Barkley will be a fine NFL QB.  However, like I said in the first sentence of this post, it’s the “sub-plot” that interests me.

“We had Matt rated in the top 50 players in the draft,” Kelly said. “We talked all along about how we were going to take value, and there was no better value than for us to open up today with than taking Matt.

– Chip Kelly, Eagles Head Coach

According to the quote (and link) above, Chip Kelly had Barkley in his top 50 players for this draft.  Further, the Eagles traded up from the 101st pick, to the 98th pick, in order to grab Barkley.

NFL Broadcasters are useless

The new NFL logo went into use at the 2008 draft.

I rarely, if ever, post about the NFL.  However, after reading this post over at DeadSpin.com, I couldn’t help myself.

There isn’t much to say other than what is in the DeadSpin.com post, so I will just let that do all the talking on this one.  Enjoy!

Oops! Apparently Chip Kelly is heading to Philly after all

Chip Kelly - 20kby Travis Normand

Last week I wrote how happy I was that Oregon head coach Chip Kelly had decided not to go to the NFL and stay at Oregon.  You can read that here.

I bring this up again because I just read that Kelly has apparently accepted the job as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles (NFL).  What a shocking turn of events, as I can honestly say I haven’t seen a move like this before.  I have never seen a coach decline an NFL offer, stay at his current school, then take the very same offer a week and a half later.

The Right Call – Chip Kelly will apparently stay at Oregon

by Travis Normand

According to several reports, Chip Kelly will turn down several NFL offers and remain the head coach at the University of Oregon.

While some will bash Kelly for flirting with the NFL two years in a row, I don’t really have a problem with it.  After all, he appears to be one of the few coaches who is able to keep his team focused and unaffected by the numerous NFL rumors.

DALLAS (AP) — Six years after entering the NFL as the third player taken in the draft, Vince Young finds himself without a team and with just a fraction of the money he received from a contract that guaranteed him $26 million.

The question is, where did it all go?

Dez Bryant Charged With Misdemeanor Assault

by Travis Normand

Oklahoma State, you must be so proud of your once great receiver.

Dez Bryant, the Oklahoma State receiver who was issued a suspension from the NCAA (while at Oklahoma State) due to his interactions with Deion Sanders and then lying about such interaction to NCAA investigators, has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault.

What is Bob Kraft doing!?

by Travis Normand

I will rarely post about any NFL topic, however, this can’t be ignored.

The following video and post first appeared over at TheBigLead.com.  Apparently Bob Kraft (NFL’s New England Patriots owner) has a new girlfriend, is helping her read lines (for an audition), acting them out, and then posting the video of it online. [Oh, and just a quick heads-up … the video does contain some NSFW language and Mr. Kraft’s girlfriend in a bikini.]

While there is nothing wrong with what he is doing, I still have to ask….why was this considered a good idea?

Hang in there Mr. Kraft.
