Texas A&M Explains Newly Added Championships

I am not exactly sure when the “internet” noticed that Texas A&M had added two national championships (1919 and 1927) and two conference championships (1997 and 2010) to their total count.  However, when it did notice, the word traveled around the inter-webs like wildfire.

The initial reports (posted by RantSports.com, USAToday.com, Barrett Sallee – SEC Lead Football Writer for BleacherReport.com, and others on/or around 7 September 2012) offered no explanation directly from Texas A&M as to why these championships were added and only speculated as to why A&M decided to claim the 1919 and 1927 national championships.

While I have no idea if the above listed sources actually contacted anyone at Texas A&M regarding the newly added championships, I would guess that they did not.  At best, they each decided that speculation was enough and merely cited the RantSports.com article as their source for information and photo credit.

Big 12 Referee Gives Longhorns Winning Touchdown

On 29 September 2012, the University of Texas Longhorns traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Late in the fourth quarter the Longhorns found themselves trailing by two points with only about a minute and 20 seconds left in the game.  The Longhorns put together an impressive 70-yard drive that apparently got them into the end zone with only 29 seconds left in the game.

Still Growing! (OnePointSafety.com Gets 50th Follower)

I didn’t expect to be posting about this again so quickly, however I am happy to do so!

On Monday (Sept. 24, 2012) OnePointSafety.com picked up its 50th follower.  OPS also surpassed its previous record for the most follows in one day (which was set on September 7, 2012).

I know, 50 followers is still pretty “small time” compared to a lot of the blogs that are currently out there.  However, I am still pretty fired up about it!!

So, thanks to all those who are following OnePointSafety.com.  Please know that I really do appreciate it.

Harvey Updyke Arrested Again!

The man who is currently awaiting trial for having poisoned trees on the campus of Auburn University (at Toomer’s Corner) has been arrested again.  However, this time his arrest was in Hammond Louisiana (home of SE Louisiana University).

According to the report in the HammondStar.com, Harvey Updyke was apparently returning a lawn mower to a Lowe’s store in Hammond where he expected to receive $150.  When a store manager informed him that he would only receive $110, the situation escalated and police were called to the scene.

ESPN is reporting that Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke set the Division 1 single game passing record today throwing for 730 yards in a 64-61 win against New Hampshire.

Heinicke set school marks in pass completions (55), attempts (79), and passing yards (730).

Both schools are in the Football Championship Subdivision which was formally referred to as Div 1AA.

The FBS record is still 716 set by Houston’s David Klingler in 1990.

Earlier this season Sam Durley set the NCAA single game passing record with 736 yards in a Division III game.

Heinicke actually had more passing yards today than Tulane, Massachusetts, Southern Miss, Temple, Hawaii, Kent State, Navy, Texas State and UAB all have passing on the whole season.

Third Time is a Charm for Utah Utes

On September 15, the Utah Utes defeated rival BYU in the 2012 edition of the “Holy War” played at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.

However, it’s not the upset that made the end of this game unconventional.  In the last five minutes of the game, the Utah football team did just about everything they could to blow their 10-point lead.  However, upon finding a way to preserve the upset, the Utah students decide that it is time for them to take matters into their own hands.

Saturday’s game between Michigan and Notre Dame is shaping up to be one of the more exciting games of the weekend.

It will be interesting to see if Notre Dame can get to 4-0 this season by beating Michigan. However, I am also anxious to see if Denard Robinson (QB, Michigan) can finally have his 2012 break-out game like he did last year against the Irish.

Continuing to Grow

It has been slow and steady but the OnePointSafety.com is continuing to grow.  Thanks to all who have visited the site, come back for more, liked a post, posted a comment, etc.  I really appreciate it.

As of right now the OnePointSafety.com has received over 100+ “likes” and 20+ “comments.”  That isn’t a lot by any measure but it is a start.
