Alabama thinks Texas A&M is not good enough

Alabama v Texas A&M T-shirtby Travis Normand

Before Alabama and Texas A&M faced off on November 10, 2012, someone in Alabama decided they needed t-shirts made specifically for that game. I have no clue why the nation’s number one ranked team, or anyone affiliated with it, would feel the need to make a special t-shirt for that particular game but they did.

Alabama was ranked number one in the country at the time of kick-off, and they were also the defending national champions. Alabama had also won the national title as recently as 2009 as well.

Hosts at ESPNU are not familiar with Texas A&M’s yells

by Travis Normand

[CFB Daily Week 11 #AwesomeBoard Nominees]

The two hosts of this segment on ESPNU make a pretty big deal out of Texas A&M WR Ryan Swope saying that the Aggies just “beat the hell outta [Alabama].”  After hearing their comments I thought I would share my thoughts about what they said.

  1. A&M did beat the hell outta Alabama, so whats the problem?
  2. Beat the hell outta __[fill in name of opponent]__” — This is a standard yell that is used constantly by Aggies at games, midnight yell practice, etc.  No one, including Alabama, should think that they are getting singled out by the use of this phrase.  This next weekend you will surely hear the Aggies yelling “Beat the hell outta Sam Houston State!

Uniforms: From Aggie to Ugly

by Travis Normand

A couple of months ago I wrote that Texas A&M must be suffering from an identity crisis. My post was only half serious as I was simply not impressed with yet another uniform change.

While reviewing A&M’s new uniforms, I hinted at the fact that their newly unveiled uniforms did nothing to advance the tradition-rich culture that Texas A&M claims to be so proud of.  If you can’t tell, I am more of a traditionalist and would like to see Texas A&M adopt the same mentality.

However, realizing that the uniforms weren’t as ugly as they could have been, I was ready to move on and adjust to the new look.  Unfortunately, moving on was going to be harder than I thought.

Clay Travis discusses all-things SEC Network with TexAgs.com

by Travis Normand

The guys over at TexAgs.com recently had Clay Travis on their radio show to discuss many things, including the SEC Network.  As always, Clay Travis did a great job of explaining why he believes the SEC Network will be extremely successful.

The interview is only about 16:30 minutes long and is worth the listen.

However, if you don’t have time to listen to the whole thing, there are some notes from the conversation posted at TexAgs.com as well.

Texas A&M Explains Newly Added Championships

by Travis Normand

I am not exactly sure when the “internet” noticed that Texas A&M had added two national championships (1919 and 1927) and two conference championships (1997 and 2010) to their total count.  However, when it did notice, the word traveled around the inter-webs like wildfire.

The initial reports (posted by RantSports.comUSAToday.com, Barrett Sallee – SEC Lead Football Writer for BleacherReport.com, and others on/or around 7 September 2012) offered no explanation directly from Texas A&M as to why these championships were added and only speculated as to why A&M decided to claim the 1919 and 1927 national championships.

While I have no idea if the above listed sources actually contacted anyone at Texas A&M regarding the newly added championships, I would guess that they did not.  At best, they each decided that speculation was enough and merely cited the RantSports.com article as their source for information and photo credit.

Adding Insult to Injury: Houston Cougar Edition

by Travis Normand

When rumors started circulating about Kevin Sumlin possibly leaving the University of Houston (UH) in order to take the head coaching job at Texas A&M, the Houston Cougar football team wasn’t happy.  In fact, they were so unhappy about the possibility of Coach Sumlin leaving that they couldn’t focus on the task at hand.

Texas State vs. UH - 1 Sept 2012

On December 3, 2011, the University of Houston entered the Conference USA Championship game undefeated.  Their task was simple–win the conference championship and receive their first-ever invitation to a BCS bowl game.  Such an accomplishment would not only be UH’s first, but would have also been the first for Conference USA.

SEC confuses Texas A&M with Mississippi State

by Travis Normand

Last week I hinted at the fact that Mississippi State’s new football uniform looked an awful lot like Texas A&M’s new uniform (both made by Adidas).

Mississippi State’s Athletics Director Scott Stricklin went on twitter to reassure everyone that despite the similarities of the uniforms, no one would have any trouble telling the two schools apart.

From @stricklinMSU (Scott Stricklin) – 26 July 2012

But I promise, no one will have trouble telling us apart at #DavisWade on Nov. 3.  #SnowBowl12

Stricklin apparently spoke too soon, as someone at SECStore.com has already confused the two.  The online retailer has already fixed the problem, but was recently selling the Texas A&M Coaches Sideline Performance Hat with an A&M logo on the front and the phrase “Bulldogs Football” on the back.

The hat’s description read as follows [emphasis added]:

Do it in official Aggies style with the 2012 Coaches Sideline flex hat from Adidas. Featuring an embroidered school wordmark on the crown, embroidered “Bulldogs Football” lettering at the back and ClimaLITE fabric that conducts heat and sweat away from the body to keep you comfortable on warm game days, this cap will ensure that you’re dry and cool while you strategize about TAMU’s next move.
