I remember when I use to be surprised by the types of historically significant antiques that you could find on places like eBay.com. However, I don’t think anything shocks me anymore.
As you may know, I am a huge fan of college football antiques and I am always looking to see what is out there floating around. While searching eBay.com today, I found the 1948 Gator Bowl MVP Trophy that was presented to Lu Gambino of the University of Maryland.
It is apparently not being auctioned off but is simply for sale. The seller [u.c.berkeley-stanford_collector] is asking $999.99 (or best offer) for the trophy. While $999.99 is not considered “cheap” by most people’s standards, it is fairly standard to ask around this much for a trophy of this kind.
Further, the seller claims to have purchased the trophy at the estate sale of the Gambino family. Assuming that is accurate, there is probably not much to worry about in terms of whether or not this trophy is authentic.

Check out the “tackle” that Alabama DL LaMichael Fanning (No. 44) uses on the Missouri RB.
At the time of this play there is less than three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Alabama is leading by a score of 42-10, and it appears that both teams were simply trying to run out the clock and end the game.
Note: During the two plays following this tackle, Fanning appears to get manhandled by some of the Missouri offensive linemen.

I think I am in the minority when it comes to my opinion of most college bands. Personally, I don’t care for the performances of what I call “show bands.”
However, I like the idea of college bands and would never want them to disappear or go away. They are too important to the overall college football game experience.
What I dislike is their unoriginal nature. The fact that most of them wear the same uniform (despite different colors) and they all do the same thing (in terms of “marching”). It wouldn’t hurt some of these bands to be a little original. Don’t even get me started on their music choices.

Report: Penn State AD Curley Will Not Return

From: Philadelphia.CBSLocal.comPHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Penn State athletic director Tim Curley will not return after his contract expires in June, according to a report from the Daily Collegian.
Curley has been the athletic director at Penn State since 1993, but was placed on administrative leave when he was charged with perjury and failure to report suspected child abuse in the Sandusky case.

If you are like me then you love this time of year. I realize that I am one of the very few people who actually like the BCS system but that doesn’t keep me from posting about it.
As you are probably already aware, the first BCS standings of the 2012 season were released yesterday (14 Oct. 2012). You can view the complete standings (in PDF form) here on the National Football Foundation’s website.

Okay, so zombies are not really taking over but don’t try to tell this to head coach Mike Leach. Leach is convinced that something is going on, and it could quite possibly be that some of his senior football players have turned into zombies.
Washington State head football coach Mike Leach is not happy with some of the seniors on his football team. Why? Because he thinks they could demonstrate more leadership for the underclassmen. In a recent news conference, Leach said that some of his seniors resembled “empty corpses” and/or “zombies.”
Kansan Football Reporter Warned About Asking Questions at Press Conference with Head Coach
October 11, 2012 by DanUniversity Daily Kansan sports writer Blake Schuster says athletics officials at the University of Kansas warned him in a private meeting about asking questions at the most recent press conference with head football coach Charlie Weis. The reason? Their concerns about “lingering ill-will among members of the football program.”

As I previously posted, Weis ranted on Twitter last Friday about what he felt was unfairly harsh coverage in the Kansan about the football team’s many woes so far this season. He particularly took issue with preview coverage of the squad’s game this past weekend against in-state rival Kansas State University. The full-page cover graphic kicking off the coverage displayed a tiny, fearful Jayhawk hugging a goalpost, while a large, muscular KSU Wildcat races fearlessly toward the end zone. The accompanying story’s headline, “Road Kill Ahead.”
